DEFINITION :
- Simple Past Tense is a tense sentence used to express events that occurred in the past and have ended in the past.
- The present perfect is used to indicate a link between the present and the past. The time of the action is before now but not specified, and we are often more interested in the result than in the action itself.
THE DIFFERENCE :
- You must always use the present perfect when the time of an action is not important or not specified.
example : i went to London last week
- You must always use the simple past when details about the time or place that an action occured are given or requested
example : i have bought a new pen
THE FORMULA :
Simple Past Tense :
+) S + V2 + Complement
-) S + Did + Not + V1 + Complement
?) Did + S + V1+ Complement
Present Perfect Tense :
| Present perfect | Simple past |
|---|---|
| I have lived in Lyon. | I lived in Lyon in 1989. |
